A Glance Eastwards, (after Ingres)
2007Animals were the first images our ancestors painted on the walls of caves. The animals depicted meant something different to those hunter-gatherers than they do to modern humans. What do they mean today in the age of the factory farm and superb TV documentaries on disappearing wildlife? Animals have become distorted ideas as symbols and myths. In a collection of 14 paintings, collages, and photography, MacCormaic probes the modern urban condition where humans have no direct contact with animals except as pets or pests.
